Christian Bale Denies Allegations of Assault

“The Dark Knight” star Christian Bale was arrested Tuesday in London after his mother and sister alleged that he assaulted them in his suite at London’s Dorchester Hotel on Sunday, a day before attending the European premiere of “The Dark Knight.” Warner Brother’s latest Batman denied allegations of assault made against him by his mother and sister, The New York Times reported.

The Wales-born actor said he voluntarily went to a London police station and he “gave his account in full of the events in question.”

In a statement, Bale’s lawyer said the actor was released without being charged. News reports said he was released on bail. “Bale, who denies the allegation, cooperated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police,” read the statement from his lawyer, Simon Smith.

The Sun newspaper reported that police did not question the actor until Tuesday because they did not want to interfere with Monday’s European premiere of the Batman movie.

“The Dark Knight,” which co-stars the late Heath Ledger, took a record $158.4 million at the box office in its opening weekend. Heath Ledger died of an accidental drug overdose earlier this year.

Bale’s film credits include “Empire of the Sun,” “The Prestige,” “Equilibrium,” “Batman Begins,” “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin,” and the upcoming film “Terminator Salvation.”
